Behind the Camera: "About Frozen Hearts"

About Frozen Hearts โ€” vertical mini-series production by Ivan Rakov Studio

We worked on production for "About Frozen Hearts," a vertical mini-series drama built for mobile-first, episode-by-episode viewing. After awakening from ten years in cryogenic freezing inside a billionaire's mansion, a young woman uncovers a web of obsession, lies, and betrayal โ€” and must expose the man who saved her before he destroys her family forever.

Shooting for Vertical, Episodic Drama

Vertical mini-series are a different animal from traditional film or TV production. Every episode has to land a complete emotional beat in under two minutes, in a 9:16 frame that leaves no room for wasted space โ€” every shot has to be tight, purposeful, and immediately readable on a phone screen. With 60 episodes to shoot, consistency across dozens of setups mattered as much as any single scene.

A Growing Format

Vertical drama is one of the fastest-growing formats in short-form entertainment right now โ€” full scripted stories, told in bite-sized episodes, built for platforms designed around swipe-to-continue viewing. It demands the discipline of traditional narrative filmmaking compressed into a completely different visual language.

You can find "About Frozen Hearts" on IMDb and watch it on Vertigo.
