Wedding Stories on 16mm Film
October 2026
📍 Los Angeles, CA & On Location
Some days you don't want to remember. You want to feel them again — the shake in a voice during the vows, the light on a veil, a grandmother laughing a half-second too long. This is what we chase when we shoot a wedding on 16mm film.
Nothing about it is a filter. The grain is real. The colors are real. Light lands on actual film and leaves its mark there, and what comes back from the lab has a warmth and a life that is very hard to fake.
A Format From Another Era
16mm film was introduced back in the 1920s and spent decades as the format of documentaries, news reports, student films, and family home movies. It is the look of memories your parents and grandparents kept in a closet.
Then digital arrived, and by the 2010s it had taken over almost everything. The big, global era of 16mm was over. But it never really disappeared. Film stock is still made today, and filmmakers, music video directors, and creative projects keep coming back to it, because nothing else gives you that grain, those colors, that softness, and that feeling of something alive.
"Digital shows you what happened. Film makes you feel like you were there."
Why It Matters For a Wedding
A wedding is the one day that happens once. It is full of emotion, and film seems made for exactly that. Skin tones look like skin. Candlelight looks like candlelight. A quick look between two people, which would pass as a nice moment in a clean digital image, becomes a frame you want to watch again and again.
There is also something quietly special about the fact that so few people do it. Very few wedding filmmakers in Los Angeles shoot on real film, and fewer still do it for weddings. For couples planning a luxury wedding, where every detail is chosen on purpose, this is the kind of detail that makes the film feel like nothing else they have seen.
A Wedding Film That Ages Like Wine
Clean digital video looks perfect today and dated in ten years. Film does the opposite. It already looks timeless, and it only gets better as the years pass. In twenty years, these will still feel like something you found in a box, in the best way.
If you are planning a wedding and want something truly different — real, warm, a little imperfect, and unforgettable — we would love to talk about shooting yours on 16mm.
